Sarmatians are Iranian-speaking nomads, whose various ethno-tribal associations from the 4th century BC to the 4th century AD occupied the steppe spaces of southern Eastern Europe. At an early stage in their history, they controlled the regions of the Southern Urals, the Middle and Lower Volga regions. In the 1st century AD some of their groups go to the borders of the Roman Empire along the Danube. Sarmatians, starting from the last two centuries BC, show military-political activity in relations with neighboring states and peoples. At the final stage of their history, they take part in the Great Migration of Peoples, which significantly changed the course of world history.
