Jaroslav Hasek (1883-1923), an outstanding Czech satirist writer, forever entered world literature as the author of The Adventures of the Good Soldier Schweik. Less known to the general reader is Hasek the newspaperman, a passionate publicist who branded the Habsburg monarchy, the clergy, and the institutions of bourgeois democracy with his satirical pen. This edition, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the writer's birth, includes his selected essays, articles and feuilletons, some of which are published in Russian for the first time.
