The tragic events of April 14, 1944 in the Bombay port were restored when the English steamer Fort Staykin, loaded with ammunition, exploded. The consequences of the explosion and the resulting fires were catastrophic, with a large number of human casualties and huge material losses. Rescue operations are described and miscalculations in their management are considered.
