The role of pumped storage power plants (PSPP) in optimizing the operating modes of electric power systems, in improving the reliability and quality of power supply to electricity consumers was analyzed. An overview of the types and layouts of the PSPP as a whole, hydraulic structures and equipment is presented; domestic and world experience in design, construction and operation of stations is considered.
