The collection is dedicated to the stay in Egypt of the outstanding Russian artist Ivan Yakovlevich Bilibin (1876-1942). It is based on previously unpublished letters by I.Ya. Bilibin from Cairo to his student and assistant L.E. Chirikova (1896-1995). Also included are the memories of those who, together with the artist, ended up in exile in Egypt. The materials of the collection are a valuable source for studying not only the life and work of I.Ya. Bilibin, but also Egypt in the 1920s. and his Russian emigrant community.
