The basics of the theory of protections used in electrical networks with a voltage of 6-35 kV are briefly described. Current and differential protections installed on power lines and transformers are considered. Detailed examples of calculation of relay protection characteristics and selection of individual protection actuation parameters are presented. The method of solving the complex problem of coordination of protections in a distribution network containing interconnected power lines, transformers and electric loads is presented.
