On May 15, 1591, an event occurred in Uglich, which largely predetermined the further course of Russian history. Under mysterious circumstances, eight-year-old Tsarevich Dmitry, the last offspring of Ivan the Terrible, died. Or maybe he didn't die - historians have different opinions on this score. Our perception of the events of the Great Russian Troubles of 1605-1613 largely depends on the answer to this question. To whom did the Russian people swear in May 1605 - the Impostor, or still the true Tsarevich Dmitry? Who was killed a year later and whose ashes did the Muscovites charge the cannon and shoot towards Lithuania - False Dmitry or the legitimate king, the last Rurikovich?
