The merits of the All-Union Geographical Society, one of the world's oldest institutions of this kind, are so well known to everyone, the names of its great travelers - P. P. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky, N. N. Miklukho-Maclay, N. M. Przhevalsky, P. A. Kropotkin, A. I. Voeikov and many others - so popular, in their geographical discoveries there is so much fascinating and romantic that, I think, the history of the hundred-year activity of our Society should be of interest not only for some geographers, but also for every educated person.
