The action of a small "sensational novel" by V. Nikiforov-Volgin takes place in the pre-revolutionary years. Student Voevodin, unjustly accused of raping and killing his own bride, becomes an underground expropriator and ruthless avenger. The revolutionary organization of Voevodin and his associates is opposed by the famous detective Putilin.
