In traditional courses on methods for solving problems of mathematical physics, direct problems are considered. In this case, the solution is determined from partial differential equations, which are supplemented by certain boundary and initial conditions. In inverse problems, some of these components of the task statement are absent. Unknown may be, for example, initial conditions, boundary modes, coefficients, and right-hand sides of equations.
