The book details the properties of the main grades of tool steel: carbon, alloy and high-speed and indicates their rational purpose for the manufacture of cutting, stamping and measuring tools. In a systematic form, using the data of the latest technical literature and factory practice of recent years, the modes of forging, thermal and chemical-thermal treatment of tool steel are given, which provide maximum improvement of properties and savings in the consumption of expensive tool steel. The design of furnaces and baths used for heating tool steel and operating on both liquid and cheap solid fuel is considered. A separate chapter describes how to restore the tool. The last chapter describes the organization of forging and heat treatment of tool steel and tools at the factory. The book is intended for industrial engineers and technicians and can serve as a teaching tool for students of technical universities.
