"Russian Chronicle" is a huge epic about the events of world history and the history of Ancient Russia from time immemorial to the end of the 13th century. This is a documentary source, where every word is significant. It consists of the "Tale of Bygone Years," the Kyiv Chronicle and the Galicia-Volyn Chronicle. The Tale of Bygone Years is a chronicle code compiled in Kyiv at the beginning of the 12th century, a monument of historiography and literature of Kievan Rus. The original (original) "Tale of Bygone Years" has not survived to this day. Only later lists survive. By "list" is meant "rewriting" ("writing off") from another source. The oldest of them are Lavrentievsky, rewritten 1377, covering events up to 1110, and Ipatievsky (Ipatsky), rewritten at the beginning of the XV century. bringing the story to 1117. Three editions of The Tale of Bygone Years are known: the first is compiled by the monk of the Kyiv Pechersk Monastery Nestor from the annals of the beginning. XII century. bringing the story to 1113; the second - hegumen of the Vydubitsky monastery Sylvester in 1116; the third was made in the Vydubice monastery in 1118 for Mstislav, the son of Vladimir II Monomakh.
