The Church Slavonic Dictionary was compiled by Archpriest A. Svirelin in 1893. It was used in parish schools and theological schools as a teaching aid, withstood more than 7 editions until 1917. It is intended for reading the Gospel, Psalms, Hours, and the Educational Octoich. The dictionary is distinguished by its simplicity of presentation and accessibility to a wide range of readers. In addition to explaining the meanings of Church Slavonic words, some historical and geographical information is given about the events, objects and persons of Holy History.
