The book of N.I. Grodekov describes the 2nd Akhaltekin expedition of Russian troops to Central Asia (1880-1881), which ended with the accession of Turkestan to Russia. By the end of the 1870s the struggle of Russia and England for influence in Central Asia intensified, and in 1880 Alexander II instructed M.D. Sobelev to lead an expedition to the Akhalteki oasis of Turkmenistan. The main goal of the campaign was the capture of the Geok-Tepe fortress (45 kilometers northwest of Askhabad) - the main support base of the Tekinites. During the expedition, many Central Asian territories previously unknown to Russians were explored, maps of the communication route, the location of oases and wells were plotted, the history and ethnography of the region were studied, etc.
