This stone, huge, ocher-brown, hung over the path itself, over that part of it that went around the shoulder of the mountain in a smooth semicircle, forming an oval platform trampled by horsemen and foot people. Foot people, however, rarely met in these places, where a person without a horse would be listed as half-man, an inferior creature and not trustworthy. This site was a shady place, shady and dry; the sun burned only its edge facing the cliff.
