The book is a scientific biography of an outstanding Russian biochemist, professor at Moscow University, academician Vladimir Sergeevich Gulevich, who stood at the origins of biochemistry and created one of the first domestic schools in this area. His works were devoted to the study of extractive substances of the body and the study of proteins and amino acids, he first discovered nitrogen-containing substances carnosine, carnitine and methylguanidine in muscle extract.
