The monograph sums up many years of study of the cardinal problems of Byzantine history. Based on extensive material, the author puts forward his concept of ways to form Byzantine feudalism. In particular, he comprehensively examines how economic and social changes were associated with the transformation of the state system, inherited in the main features from the Late Roman Empire.
