Geoffrey de Villardouin - a major French feudal lord, military leader, one of the leaders of the Fourth Crusade. He compiled his eyewitness account of the Fourth Campaign and the capture of Constantinople. This first attempt at prose writing in French served as the exemplary beginning of a long series of prominent French chronicles and histories. Villardouin's story was often called the "heroic prose poem."
