Georges Dumézil (1899-1986) - French sociologist, philologist, historian of religion. In a series of fundamental works (the most important link in the series is this book) he developed a theory about the three-part structure of the mythology of the oldest Indo-European peoples and the corresponding functional system: priestly, military and economic. The fact that Dumézil turns to Rome as one of the main objects of consideration, and to the "archaic religion of the Romans," this is quite predictable, Rome laid the foundation for European culture, religion and politics of the last two millennia. And it is all the more important to understand what stands at the very origins of Rome?
