On the southeastern side of Russia, at the borders with Siberia, along the ridge of the Ural Mountains, along their southern branches and western plains, in the provinces of Vyatka, Perm, Orenburg and Samara, people have been living since ancient times calling themselves Bashkirs, or Bashkurts.
