M. Born's book "Atomic Physics" occupies a special place in the physical literature, being one of the simplest and most accessible presentations of the physics of atoms and molecules. To read it from the reader does not require much special training. Complex physical conclusions, as well as some mathematical information, are provided by the author in a number of appendices placed at the end of the book. This allows you to read the book "on two levels." Anyone who is interested in the physical picture of phenomena can limit himself to the main text. At the same time, in general, the book is a scientifically strict and fairly complete guide for a more prepared reader. Finally, for a physicist, the book is interesting in that it conveys the heroic atmosphere of the time when quantum physics was created - a time whose number of direct witnesses is already small.
