Frenkel is the heir and successor to the development of the ideas of gerontology of the two largest Russian scientists of the early twentieth century: the creator of the Periodic System of Elements Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev (1834-1907) and the founder of one of the first theoretical concepts related to the problem of aging, longevity and death, Ilya Ilyich Mechnikov (1845-1916). The works of these two scientists gave impetus to the creation of the fundamental theoretical work 3. G. Frenkel's "Lengthening of Life and Active Old Age" [1945, 1949], which made it possible to formulate not only theoretical foundations, but also applied aspects of gerontology in relation to a person as a biosocial object of studying the laws that determine his position in human society.
