Most Western authors write about Stalin as a monster, a dictator worse than Hitler, who built his state on the corpses of fellow citizens. However, not everything is so simple. Many of Stalin's contemporaries - writers and scientists - admired Stalinist socialism, a strong Soviet state, the only one that turned out to be able to withstand the Nazi threat.
