For the collection of Ukrainian folk tales compiled and translated by G. Petnikov, ethnographic collections published in the 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as materials from the funds of the Institute of Art History, Folklore and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, were mainly used. The collection includes only some of the extensive material collected in Ukraine, and it introduces only the main types of fairy tales, folk stories and anecdotes that exist in Ukraine to the present.
