The guidelines provide a brief analysis of artistic and graphic means, an idea of ​ ​ working with visual materials. The main points of graphic stylization of the portrait in the practical work of 3rd year students are revealed. Extensive illustrative material demonstrates a diverse technique for depicting a portrait in graphics, reproductions from the works of students and the author are presented. A list of references for self-study of the genre is offered.
