Almost 20 years have passed since the publication of the first edition of this dictionary, which I called brief, because I appointed it not for professional sailors, but for lovers of maritime affairs. Now that the first edition has sold out, and the material for the second edition was already ready for me, I involuntarily dwelled on the question - is there a need for such a reference book that could be useful for both amateur sailors and beginners of the maritime profession?
