Poetry created in Scotland in the national Gaelic language has not been translated into Russian before. In order to compile the anthology of Gaelic poetry of the highlanders now offered to the Russian reader, the translators had to understand this literature, completely unknown to us, and only then proceed with the translation. The result was a book of poems created by 29 poets in the dialect of Ossian. Having experienced a rapid heyday in the 18th century, in the 19th century the literary Gaelic tradition continued in Canada, where emigrant Gaels were supplanted. In the twentieth century, this poetry returned to its homeland, and to this day the literature of the highlanders does not die. The book includes translations of virtually every "major" work produced by Scotland's poets in their native Gaelic in recent centuries.
