London, 1664. The English revolution died down, the monarchy was restored, Charles II sits on the throne. Most of the judges who signed the death sentence to the previous monarch Charles I almost two decades ago were found and executed, only two took refuge in the North American colonies. And so Baltazar de Saint-Michel, the unlucky brother-in-law of Samuel Pips, a high-ranking official of the Maritime Department, goes in search of them. In the New World, Balti will meet diehard Puritans and sinless Quakers, feuding Indians and adventurers of all stripes, as well as a mysterious agent of the Crown, called to help him in his search.
