1848 denotes a turn in the official activity of E.I. Chirikova. Appointed a member of the International Commission to determine the borders between Turkey and Persia, he spent four years in one of the least known countries in Asia. When executing an international assignment, Chirikov discovered undoubted diplomatic abilities. The International Commission was composed of representatives of four Powers - two directly interested in the case, Ottoman and Persian, and two intermediaries, Russian and English.
