I heard about the death of a group of tourists in the Northern Urals in the summer of 1959, while serving in the Soviet army, in the Tashkent region (the city of ChirchIk). A soldier of our company, a Sverdlovsk resident Akhtyamov, went on vacation home and said in his stories that a large group of skiers died behind Ivdel last winter. According to him, there were rumors among the people that they were under the test of some kind of weapon. The message of the vacationer did not make a big impression on me: in the army you often hear about death.
