The book discusses the most important visual objects of mathematics important for applications: small manifolds and vector fields on them, continuous maps and their deformations. It is shown how, when solving geometric problems, basic ideas, concepts and methods of algebraic topology naturally arise: homology groups, obstacles and invariants, characteristic classes.
