Paul Gauguin is one of the outstanding and brightest representatives of post-impressionism. However, Gauguin was not only a painter, but also a sculptor, woodcarver, engraver, critic and writer. His achievements as an artist - a new understanding of color and its connection with light, a special attitude to lines and contours, a desire for maximum simplification and at the same time to highlight individual, most striking details, work on a flat image - had a significant impact on all art of the 20th century.
