The monograph examines the fate of the Roman school and education in southern Gaul and Italy in the V - first half of the VI century, during the decline of Roman statehood, the formation of Christian society and the formation of barbarian kingdoms. The focus is on issues of self-awareness of late antique society, cultural continuity and historical transformation in Western Europe of the period of late Antiquity.
