The diversity and richness of Karelian folklore in all its genres is difficult to show in one collection. Nevertheless, it is long overdue to give at least a general idea of ​ ​ the state of folk poetic creativity of Karelians against a wide background as modern, so are earlier records of oral folk poetry since the first half of the 19th century. Circumstances also make it necessary to dispel the opinion widespread among a wide range of readers and even the scientific community that, for example, the oral poetic tradition of Karelians dates back to Kalevala.
