In July 1917, the hero of the story, together with the cadets, was sent to arrest the main Bolshevik, the "German spy" - Lenin. Junkers leave Sernikov ambushed in a safe house. Vladimir Ilyich's sister, Maria Ilyinichna, drinks the soldier with tea and shows the letters of the trenchers. These letters shock Sernikov. A turning point does not immediately occur in the soldier's mind; he still has many dramatic events to endure before he takes the position of the Bolsheviks. The story ends with the meeting of the soldier with Lenin.
