It was a sunny summer day in 1958, when the new aircraft made its first flight at the airfield of the Mikhail M. Gromov Flight Research Institute. This aircraft was a new supersonic long-range bomber, the last brainchild of the Tupolev design bureau, which received the index 105 and became the ancestor of the Tu-22 family of aircraft, which to this day make up the base of the strike potential of Long-Range Aviation and Aviation of the Russian Navy.
