The monograph for the first time highlights the whole complex of relations between K. N. Batyushkov and Italian culture: his works on Italian themes, translations, imitations and stylizations, quotes and reminiscences from Italian writers, the use of Italian in letters, etc. Using traditional and original research methods, the author of the monograph identifies and systematizes numerous facts of the impact of translated poetry (not only domestic, but also Western European) on the Russian poetic language of the late XVIII - X I X centuries. The work is distinguished by a consistent philological approach to the phenomena of language and culture.
