The book tells about the life, state and military activities of eight major military leaders of Russia, whose names are associated with the establishment of the southern borders of our statehood, the protection of the peoples of the Caucasus from Turkish and Persian expansion, the disappearance of the slave trade, the cultural rise and economic prosperity of the Caucasus region. These are V.A. Zubov, I.V. Gudovich, A.P. Ermolov, I.F. Paskevich-Erivansky, V.O. Bebutov, I.M. Andronnikov, N.N. Muravyov-Karsky, N.N. Yudenich. The exploits of the first of them were at the end of the XVIII, the last - at the beginning of the XX century. They enriched the treasury of military art with unprecedented campaigns, battles, assaults, military and diplomatic victories. Famous in their time for the whole country, now they are almost forgotten. The book restores historical justice and helps the modern reader to remember and visibly imagine the personalities of these outstanding commanders in Russian history, from whose activities many more useful lessons can be learned.
