The need that arose during the war for utilizing the microwave region of the radio frequency spectrum for communications and radar stimulated the development of new types of antennas. The problems and design techniques, lying as they do in the domain of both applied electromagnetic theory and optics, are quite distinct from those of long-wave antennas.
