The material presented in the book allows students to learn how to read and translate monuments of Persian poetry and prose, as well as gain skills in philological analysis and commenting on the text. The text reading manual consists of an introduction, 33 lessons and appendices. Each lesson includes a main text (a fragment from poetry or prose of the 9th-15th centuries) equipped with lexical commentary, a grammatical topic extensively illustrated with examples, one or two exercises in lesson grammar and an additional text with some "tips" intended for independent work. The appendices provide basic information about the metric and rhyme of Persian poetry and provide paradigms for the size of the verses included in the texts of the lessons. For students studying in programs related to the Persian language and literature of Iran, and have already mastered the basics of the modern Persian language, as well as for Iranian students whose specialization is related to the study of medieval written sources.
