Major General of the Separate Corps of Gendarmes Alexander Ivanovich Spiridovich was a staunch monarchist, devoted much effort to the fight against revolutionary radicals and outlined his experience in two books united by the theme "Revolutionary Movement in Russia": "Russian Social Democratic Labor Party" and "Party of Socialist Revolutionaries and its predecessors." In 1905, he was seriously wounded by a terrorist. Having recovered from his wound, Siiridovich was appointed to the post of head of the palace guard.
