The author, summarizing a number of previously little-researched materials of the National Archive of the Republic of Latvia, talks about those Latvian diplomats who defended the interests of the country from Washington - in the mission left over from pre-war Latvia, and from Riga - in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Latvian SSR. Sometimes their activity was confrontation, and sometimes cooperation.
