Antonio Genovesi (1712-1769) can rightfully be considered one of the founders of modern economic knowledge. Being a metaphysicist and theologian, the last fifteen years of his life he devoted himself entirely to economics and ethics, having headed the department of commerce and mechanics in 1754. "Lectures on Trade, or On the Civil Economy" is not only a university course, but also the result of his thoughts on economics.
