Poetic anthology on the history of Russian verse covers almost three centuries - from the founders of the new Russian poetry Trediakovsky and Lomonosov to the end of the 20th century. The book is built on a chronological principle and is divided into five main sections: XVIII century, the first half of the XIX century, its second half, the beginning of the XX century, the Soviet period and the end of the XX century. A brief appendix contains samples of pre-syllabic and syllabic poetry of the XVII - early XVIII centuries. The introductory article provides basic information about the features of the Russian verse and its evolution, each section is preceded by a brief description of the verse of this period. All poems are given poetry notes. The present, third, edition of the anthology (the first was published in 1983, the second in 1987) was corrected and supplemented by V.E. Kholshevnikov (1910-2000).
