One of Viktor Pelevin's earliest and brightest novels, Omon Ra, is a parody of educational and patriotic works of the Soviet era and reveals many allusions, both to the history of astronautics and to the system of priorities and values ​ ​ of Soviet society. The plot of the novel is based on the preparation of Soviet cosmonauts for a flight to the moon. According to Viktor Pelevin himself, the book uses the allegorical idea of ​ ​ "tonal," denoting in a symbolic sense a totalitarian command-administrative false-propaganda communist society of self-sacrifice. The book is dedicated to "Heroes of Soviet Space" - but not widely revered official cosmonauts, but unknown ordinary secret "Soviet space."
