Many articles and books have been written about R. Scott's fateful journey to the pole, but the book of E. Cherry-Garrard, who participated in the English Antarctic expedition of 1911-1913 as an assistant biologist, is essentially the only coherent narrative about this entire expedition as a whole. A high degree of reliability in describing the entire course of the expedition is combined with an unusually lively, emotional presentation.
