Brief information on the development of subways and other types of high-speed off-street passenger transport in the largest cities of Russia is given; methods of justifying the need for their construction; main design solutions of underground structures. The principles of the organization of construction production, modern technologies of domestic and world metro construction, issues of labor protection and industrial safety in metro construction are reflected.
