When planning the operation against the USSR, several variants of its conditional name were sorted out: Aufbau Ost, Otto, Fried, until, finally, Hitler settled on the code: Operation Barbarossa. Already in 1940, cases were opened in the German General Staff under the Barbarossa code, in which all documents related to the planned attack on the Soviet Union were filed. Cases were conducted in operational management, in intelligence, in the rear service, in the communications department, in other departments. And on all the folders were the code "Barbarossa" and a red oblique stripe, indicating the highest degree of secrecy in German military office work.
