It is hard to believe that personal records of a person who lived almost 2000 years before us can be so consonant with modernity. It is impossible to imagine that their author was the emperor of the Roman Empire. It is surprising that this is a statement of the morality of a person who opposed himself to Christians and subjected their early communities to persecution.
