The publication includes selected poems of 1840-1890. and poems Grasshopper musician, In the late forties. Introductory article by B. M. Eichenbaum. Polonsky's literary heritage is very large and unequal, includes several collections of poems, numerous poems, novels and short stories. The first poetry collection is "Scales" (1844). Released in Odessa, the second collection of "Poems of 1845" caused a negative assessment of V.G. Belinsky. In the collection "Sazandar" (1849) he recreated the spirit and life of the peoples of the Caucasus. A small part of Polonsky's poems refers to the so-called civic lyrics ("To confess, I forgot, gentlemen," "Miazm" and others). The poem "Prisoner" (1878) was dedicated to Vera Zasulich. In his declining life, he turned to the themes of old age and death (collection "Evening Ringing," 1890). Among the poems, the most significant is the fairy tale poem "Grasshopper Musician."
